Salary: £16,252.24 (£27,087.06 FTE)
Location: Pitsea, South Essex (RSPB South Essex Marshes Office)
Hours: Part time – 3 days per week
Contract Type: Fixed-term until 31 March 2025

Are you passionate about wildlife and sharing your experiences to inspire others?

Buglife is recruiting a Community Warden for Canvey Wick, a former oil refinery that has been reclaimed by nature. This incredible site is now home to thousands of species including the Shrill Carder Bee, Nightingale and Scarce Emerald Damselfly.

Working with our partners, the RSPB and the Land Trust, you will be at the heart of reconnecting the local community with this amazing wildlife site. You will organise community and volunteer events (like bug hunts, citizen science, practical conservation tasks, arts events and consultations) and be a spokesperson for one of the most fascinating wildlife sites in the UK.

We are looking for someone who has experience in nature conservation and empowering communities.  You’ll know and will have examples of where you’ve worked with volunteer groups and be able to show how you’ve raised awareness of wildlife/environmental issues before.

Do you have?

  • Good level of ecological knowledge and understanding of conservation management issues.
  • Experience of professional nature conservation and habitat management.
  • Experience of working with volunteer groups.
  • Experience of raising public awareness of wildlife and environmental issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including report-writing and producing online resources.
  • A confident and persuasive manner.
  • Experience of working in partnership with other organisations.
  • Good computer skills, including use of internet, email, Microsoft Office, and Excel.
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to plan and prioritise work.
  • Social media skills.
  • Full, current driving licence.
