From flooding to freezing

At last we have the weather forecast I have been waiting for! Our meadow seed that was sown before Christmas contains amongst other species, Yellow Rattle. This hemiparisitic plant will feed on the grass sward, weakening the competitive growth of the grass and helping our wild flowers to establish. Yellow Rattle like many seeds require a cold spell to break the dormancy of the seed. The cold jolt will help the seed to realise that spring is round the corner and it is time to think about starting to grow.
