Quick Facts:

  • Name of Project:  SP Energy NetworksPollinator B-Lines
  • Duration of Project: October 2025 to October 2026
  • Location of Project: Central Belt, Scotland
  • Species benefiting from Project: Pollinators and other grassland invertebrates.
  • Project funded by: SP Energy Networks
  • Project partners: SP Energy Networks

What will the project do?

We will restore four sites owned by SP Energy Networks within the B-Lines network, for the benefit of insect pollinators, other invertebrates and wildlife. This will be through a variety of methods, including wildflower seed sowing and plug planting, nectar-rich bulb planting and hedgerows. We will also install solitary bee nesting posts and bee banks where possible.

The sites for the project are in:

  • Busby, East Renfrewshire
  • Leven, Fife
  • Livingston East, West Lothian
  • Drumcross, West Lothian

Improving these sites for pollinators will support the resilience of local populations by helping to connect sites and creating stepping-stones of habitat for pollinators and other wildlife to move across the landscape. These areas of connection are known as “B-Lines”,

As well as on the ground enhancement works, management plans will be written to ensure long term success of the habitats.
