Buglife’s Northern Ireland Coastal Invertebrates Project is designed to protect rare invertebrates by restoring habitat along our coastlines and we’re inviting farmers and land managers to play a key part.

We’re looking for farmers and landowners along the Northern Ireland coast to:

  • Work with our team to identify field edges or other areas for pollinator-friendly habitat;
  • Create or improve wildflower-rich margins, hedgerows, or grassland. (Even small changes, such as increasing the area of wildflower margins, managing hedgerows on rotation, maintaining some tussocky grass or bare ground for nesting bees or reducing spray drift near field edges can make a big difference);
  • Take part in habitat monitoring and share your success stories;
  • Maintain the changes for a minimum of 10 years.

What You’ll Gain

On your farm:

  • More natural pollination and pest control (IPM);
  • Enhanced biodiversity and soil health;
  • Potential to meet agri-environment goals with practical, visible results;
  • A stronger, more connected landscape for wildlife;
  • A visible contribution to Northern Ireland’s nature recovery network.

Please contact [email protected] to find out if your farm is eligible.

If you decide to proceed we can arrange for a farm visit at a time suitable for you. We will work with you to identify opportunities that will work for your farm business and nature.

The project has funding available to support with habitat creation and we will provide advice on how best to support invertebrates and other wildlife on farm. Funding is limited so please don’t delay! We look forward to hearing from you.
