Salary: £26,019.24 per annum pro rata (£32,524.05 FTE)
Contract: Part-time – (30 hours / 0.8 FTE) Fixed Term Contract – until 31 December 2026
Location: Scotland – with travel to lochs, community events, meetings and other locations as required.

This vacancy has arisen unexpectedly, so we’re keen to appoint someone who is available to start on 1 October 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
We’re looking for a passionate and motivated conservation professional to join Buglife as a Conservation Officer and help deliver our exciting Lochfly Invertebrate Surveys pilot project across Scotland.
Working alongside another part-time Conservation Officer, you’ll identify suitable lochs and communities, build relationships with local groups, recruit and support volunteers, and organise Lochfly workshops. You’ll also gather community feedback, analyse survey data, contribute to reports and help develop a strategy for funding and delivering Lochfly nationally across Scotland.
We’re looking for someone with knowledge of freshwater invertebrate ecology and a genuine commitment to wildlife conservation, who is confident engaging with communities and sharing their knowledge with a wide range of audiences. Experience in project development and/or bid writing would be beneficial.

This role will contribute directly to that mission, helping communities understand the importance of freshwater invertebrates and developing new ways to monitor and protect Scotland’s lochs.
