Urban woodlands are groups of trees and wooded areas found within and around towns and cities, ranging from parks and nature reserves to community woodlands, street-side copses and remnant ancient woodland. These spaces provide far more than attractive green landscapes. They support biodiversity, improve air quality, help reduce the urban heat island effect, manage stormwater, store carbon, and contribute to healthier, more resilient communities.

As towns and cities continue to grow, understanding how to protect, restore and manage urban woodlands is becoming increasingly important. This symposium brings together speakers to share the latest research and practical projects that are helping to shape the future of these valuable environments.

This symposium will be joined by speakers from a range of research and conservation projects, including:

2. Threats, Management and Long-term Change in Urban Ancient Woodlands

All presentations will be recorded and will be shared after the event, along with Q&A transcripts and useful links.

• Professional Ticket (£30 + VAT): For those attending as part of their work or continuing professional development (CPD).
• Non-professional Ticket (Pay what you can – £1 minimum but suggested contribution £12.50): For non-professionals, including volunteer biological recorders, conservation volunteers, amateur naturalists, students, and anyone attending in a personal capacity.

This symposium is delivered without external funding, so ticket fees help cover the costs of organising and hosting the event. We want the event to be as accessible as possible, so we have introduced a flexible pricing model that allows attendees to choose the ticket that best reflects their circumstances.
