Become a citizen scientist with Shallowford Farm, Butterfly Conservation and Buglife!
Help us protect the Marsh Fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) on Dartmoor, one of Britain’s most threatened butterflies. We need your help to protect it and East Shallowford Farm is running a volunteer monitoring programme across eight sites along the River Webburn. We’re looking for 20 eager citizen scientists to join us by signing up for survey days in August and early September (weekdays).
What’s involved
Your day of training will start with tea, coffee and introductions, followed by a presentation on the Marsh Fritillary Butterfly and how we survey them. Using your newfound knowledge, you’ll venture out on site, putting your skills into practice. All training and equipment will be provided.
Volunteering to survey the Marsh Fritillary Butterfly is open for anyone over 16 years. You will need to be available on weekdays, but won’t be expected to sign up to survey all eight sites – unless you really want to!
You will be on your feet while out on site, so reasonable physical fitness and stability is needed.
