Carnmoney Hill Local Nature Reserve, Carnmoney Hill, Newtownabbey, BT36 6AQ

Do you love nature? Want a good excuse to get outside? Join the City Nature Challenge this April and take part in an international bioblitz, helping us observe plants, animals, and other species from around the globe.

All you need is a smartphone & the free iNaturalist app!

The Botanical Skills Northern Ireland Project is holding a botanical recording event at Carnmoney Hill, Belfast as part of the 2026 City Nature Challenge Bioblitz, with the aim to discover and record as many species of plants as we can at the Carnmoney Hill site, using the iNaturalist recording app.

Alongside, in attendance, will be Buglife and CEDaR who will be focusing on the invertebrate and other taxa to be discovered in this area.

Come and join in the Bioblitz and enjoy the beautiful woodland plants, other wildlife, and fantastic views of the city. This event is open to all levels of botanical, invertebrate and taxa experience, so don’t worry if you don’t know your daisies from your dandelions or bees from your wasps, we’ll be there to help you work out what you’ve found!

Please note, areas of the intended route have some steeper ascents / difficult terrain and/or long walking distances.
