Join Newcastle’s Nature Networks and Buglife B-Lines Officer, Rachel Richards, for an introduction to pollinators and FIT Counts. FIT Counts, part of PoMS are 10 minute quadrats, recording insects moving between one chosen plant species. They are a citizen science method to record pollinators so only require insect identification to group level (e.g. bumblebee, solitary bee, beetles, butterfly, hoverfly etc).
We will start this session inside with a talk and a cuppa and some specimens, learning the importance of pollinators, their habitat needs and how to identify the main pollinator groups in the UK. We will then step out into St Nicholas Park to find some pollinators at work, ensuring we are confident to identify them to group. Finally, we will carry out some FIT Counts in small groups.
Book your place via Eventbrite.
