Saving the small things that run the planetOur policy and advocacy work is another important way to conserve invertebrates in Wales. This can involve influencing Welsh government with regards to new policy and legislation, working with Assembly members to raise awareness of invertebrates and wider issues at the Senedd, to engaging members of the public. We are a member of Wales Environment Link (WEL) and work with a range of environmental, countryside and heritage non-governmental organisations to positively influence development of policy, legislation and practice in Wales.
In 2017 WEL launched the Species Champions Project which pairs at-risk species with elected Assembly Members, giving political representation and awareness to wildlife under threat. Buglife Cymru currently has 2 Species Champions: Rebecca Evans AM – Species Champion for Black oil beetle, and Caroline Jones AM – Species Champion for Fen raft spider.
