Help get Cardiff Buzzing with bees

Thursday 10th November 2016

Rhydypennau Library has been the talk of Cardiff as it has been awash with colour with its new pollinator friendly planting this summer was exploding with colour and buzzing with life. Part of Cardiff Urban Buzz, the Mini meadow, vegetable bed and herbs is one of the first of 100 sites across Cardiff to receive a ‘bee makeover’ to enable Cardiff parks to provide more homes for bees. Buglife is looking for local help to create these 100 Buzzing Hotspots.

Michelle Bales, Buglife’s Urban Buzz Officer said, “We are really pleased with the results at Rhydypennau Library, it has provided a stunning array of flowers as well as nesting sites for bees. Crucially it provides the all important food sources of pollen and nectar for a range of insect pollinators.”

Whilst flowers at Rhydypennau Library are going strong the project still urgently needs to raise £5,000 to ensure that its ambitious target of 100 sites across Cardiff can be met. The project is encouraging people to donate online and undertake sponsored challenges or events and donate the funds to the project.

Michelle continued, “We’ve lots planned for spring 2017 and there are lots of opportunities to get involved. We still need to raise £5,000 to ensure that we can meet our 100 sites target. Cardiff Urban Buzz is putting a call to anyone or any business that wants to help Urban Buzz. It might be sponsoring one of our sites, or getting involved in a sponsored seed sowing or giant bee nest building, by doing this you could help raise some money to gives bees a better home!”

Working in partnership with Cardiff City Council, Cardiff Urban Buzz is making Cardiff’s parks better for bees by planting wildflowers, planting trees for bees, opening ‘bee hotels’ and much more. The brilliant thing about this is that by making our parks better for bees we will have stunning and inspiring parks for us all to enjoy.

So if you want to get involved with the project or have a business that would like to support Urban Buzz Cardiff also please help raise money from the Aviva fund by voting for the project.
