Buglife Cymru is offering an opportunity of a paid traineeship to help deliver our nature
recovery project in Swansea Bay. The role is part-time (4 days/30 hours per week) for eight
months. The Swansea Bay project is one of eleven projects which make up the Natur am
Byth! species recovery programme. This is one of three traineeships being hosted by Natur
am Byth! at the same time – to provide opportunities for joint learning and shared
experiences.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person in the early stages of their nature
conservation career. The trainee will have a unique opportunity to gain confidence and
develop a variety of new skills. The trainee will assist the project team to monitor and
record threatened species and their habitats across the Swansea Bay area including the
Strandline Beetle, Fen Raft Spider, Sand Lizard, Goldilocks Aster, Broad-fruited Cornsalad
and Three-lobed Water-crowfoot. There will also be opportunities to get involved with
Adder and bat surveys being carried out by our neighbouring projects Adder Action and
Swansea Bay Stars of the Night.
The trainee will support the project team at public events, activities and talks across the
project area, and will have opportunities to organise and run their own activities (with
support) following themes of wellbeing and nature connection.
As one of three Natur am Byth trainees, the trainee will participate in shared training and
learning experiences. Each trainee will also have the opportunity to spend time working
with other projects within the Natur am Byth programme. This will provide opportunities
to experience working with a range of environmental organisations and gain knowledge of
different species conservation issues.
We operate a hybrid working policy, offering a mix of office and home based working. You
will be able to work from Buglife’s Wales office in Bridgend and/or the NRW office in
Llandarcy. A flexible approach to the working pattern will be considered for the successful
candidate.
