Campaign Officer

Hours: Part-time 30 hours / 4 days per week
Contract type: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
Salary: £25,747.81 per annum pro rata (£32,184.76 FTE)
Location: Home based with occasional travel across the UK.

Buglife -The Invertebrate Conservation Trust is looking for a motivated and skilled Campaign Officer to join our expanding Advocacy and Social Change team. In this role, you’ll lead the charge on a critical campaign addressing the hidden threats veterinary medicines pose to invertebrates, the unsung heroes of healthy ecosystems.

You’ll play a central role in shaping public awareness and policy by developing high-impact communications, producing evidence-based reports (including an in-depth review of topical flea treatments and their effect on freshwater invertebrates), and crafting persuasive policy position statements. As part of our Advocacy and Social Change team, you’ll also support broader efforts to champion invertebrate conservation, influencing stakeholders, engaging decision-makers, and raising public awareness about the essential role these species play in our natural world.

We’re looking for someone with proven experience in environmental campaigning, strong policy and communication skills, and a genuine commitment to nature conservation.

Role & Responsibilities

· Design and deliver an ambitious campaign to reduce the unintended harm of veterinary medicines on wildlife, especially aquatic life.
· Keep your finger on the pulse of UK policy developments, ensuring Buglife is one step ahead in protecting nature through informed action.
· Represent Buglife at key external forums and roundtables.
· Work with colleagues across the organisation, spotting and seizing advocacy opportunities wherever they arise.
· Inspire and educate, whether it’s briefing other conservation bodies, updating stakeholders, or giving media interviews
· Develop powerful communications: write compelling briefings, speak with authority in the media, and present ideas that spark momentum.
· Build long-term alliances and partnerships that support campaign success and drive organisational growth.
· Collaborate on funding bids that align with our strategy and secure the resources to keep pushing boundaries.

Qualifications/ Skills/Knowledge/Experience

· Experience of working on development and running environmental campaigning.
· Experience of raising public awareness of wildlife and environmental issues, with the potential to engage with media to promote issues and activities.
· Proven track record of effective project management skills.
· Confident communicator, able to speak to a wide range of audiences, including acting alone.
· Ability to collate and present information from a variety of sources.
· Able to research and write clear and informative reports, position statements, articles, and briefing materials.
· Able to develop and maintain external partnerships including with other NGOs and decision makers.
· Familiarity of environmental policy would be beneficial.
· Budget management experience.
· Demonstrable dedication to protecting the environment and conserving wildlife.
· Good level of understanding of conservation issues.
