Please help Buglife monitor our pollinating insects in Torbay this Summer by getting involved in the Torbay’s Buzzing Big Pollinator Survey.
As part of our Torbay’s Buzzing project, Buglife would like people of all ages to go into their gardens or local green spaces this summer and look for pollinating insects and the flowers they are using. This will help us record species and see how they are doing in the area. We hope you will have fun looking for bees, hoverflies, bee-flies and beetles and the flowers they feed from!
For this survey, Buglife have designed a pollinator survey guide with three pages of information on 3 bumblebees, 3 solitary bees, 5 hoverflies, a bee fly and 3 beetles to look out for. This sheet also allows you to write notes on the flowers that your pollinator has visited as well as anything else of interest. There is also a one page recording sheet on the back of the spotting sheet.
To get started, download the pollinator survey guide on the right hand side of this page. Go out on a bright sunny day for a look around your garden, or visit a local park or nature reserve and record what you see. Remember to submit your records. These will let us see where you have been and what you have seen. Please take some photos and share them with us on Facebook or Twitter (@buzz_dont_tweet).
