Buglife is working with well known nature writers Peter Marren and Richard Mabey on their project. We want to find out what meaning we attach to bugs, what uses and entertainments we have made of them, how they inspire us whether in poetry, prose, film or song, and what we do to attract and conserve them.

Bugs Britannica, planned for publication in 2009/10, will be the third in a critically acclaimed trilogy of books about the relationships between the human and the plant and animal world. Flora Britannica by Richard Mabey recorded the role of wild plants in our lives and Birds Britannica (Mark Cocker and Richard Mabey) documented our remarkable relationship with wild birds. Bugs Britannica will chart the links between people and invertebrates in the same lively and engaging way.

We want you to help with this project. This is your opportunity to take part in an exciting survey of the role of insects and other invertebrates in our lives. Please contact the authors with stories about your encounters with bug life. Do you garden with bugs in mind, perhaps with bee-friendly flowers or a pond? Are there local names, legends or customs involving particular insects or other invertebrates?
